(Tumon, Guam) The Joint Typhoon Warning Center has issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert for Invest 97W. The weather disturbance we have been following the past four days now has a high potential of developing into a significant tropical cyclone over the next 24 hours. Invest 97W now is 1,093 miles east-southeast of Guam and continues to move west-northwestward, now heading north of Pohnpei, as of 1:30 a.m. (ChST).

This is information from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center as of 1:30 a.m. today (ChST).

Winds in the area of the formation are between 20 to 26 mph, which means Invest 97W has strengthened since it started forming days ago southeast of the Marshall Islands.

The JTWC is expected to reissue this alert, cancel it, or upgrade this to a warning over the next 24 hours based on 97W's formation or dissipation.

Kandit will continue to monitor the development of this system.
