Archbishop Michael Byrnes has lifted the general dispensation from attending Mass that he granted last year because of the pandemic.
In a three-page letter to Catholics, the archbishop says that effective Pentecost Sunday, May 23, "all Catholics must now resume fulfilling their obligation to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays and on Holy Days of Obligation."
The archbishop also said that, though watching the livestream of the Mass helped to bridge the faithful to the church during the pandemic, "It can never replace being fully present ourselves as we celebrate the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament."
