(Tumon, Guam) Major Josephine Blas, public affairs officer for the Guam National Guard, confirmed with Kandit News that no Guam Guard troops currently are deployed in Iraq.
News sources throughout the globe are reporting that Iran has launched missiles at bases hosting U.S. troops in Iraq. There is no word as of this article (10:28 a.m. ChST, Wednesday, January 8, 2020) whether there are any American casualties from the attack.
Christian Hodge from Joint Region Marianas public affairs office told Kandit about 30 minutes ago that he will find out whether any Guam-based troops are stationed at any of the locations that were attacked.
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham tweeted at 9:49 a.m. ChST,
"We are aware of reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The President has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team."
Iran threatens allies, singles out Israel
Four minutes ago the Associated Press published a story and tweeted it giving an update on the situation. Here is a part of that story:
"Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned thee U.S. and its regional allies against retaliating over the missile attack against the Ain Assad air base in Iraq's western Anbar province. The Guard issued the warning via a statement carried by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.
"'We are warning all American allies, who gave their bases to its terrorist army, that any territory that is the starting point of aggressive acts against Iran will be targeted,' The Guard said. It also threatened Israel."
