BREAKING NEWS: Maria Gutierrez elected school board chair

By Troy Torres troy@kanditnews.com

(Tumon, Guam) The Guam Education Board elected Maria Gutierrez as chairman.

Ms. Gutierrez has served as the parent representative then as one of the most popularly elected representatives of the board of education since her children were public school students.

She now is the grandmother of public school students.

This will be her first time to serve as the chairman of the board. Ms. Gutierrez often has been at odds with the powers that have been, which made her disruptive and reform-minded brand unpopular among politicians and embedded upper management of the Department of Education for decades.

Her election marks a new era in public school policy and governance.
