(Tamuning, Guam) Without explanation, the government of Guam announced in a news release that the Pacific Star Hotel will not be used as a quarantine facility, and its inhabitants will be transferred to the Wyndham Gardens and Hotel Santa Fe hotels.
The two hotels were awarded contracts from the General Services Agency to serve as quarantine facilities.
The use of the hotels has been mired in an illegal procurement process and illegal payments discovered so far to the Wyndham and Days Inn hotels.
The government of Guam directors and Adelup staffers, who had displaced hotel staff at the hotels no longer will be assigned to quarantine duty. Instead, the Guam National Guard will assume quarantine operations.
GovGuam still not following testing instructions
The news release also says the Guam Public Health Laboratory is closed on Sundays and reminds physicians "to follow storage requirements by ensuring specimens are refrigerated at 2-8 [degrees Celsius]."
The GPHL uses the Abbott ID NOW machine to test swabbed specimens for Coronavirus. Abbott Laboratories, the manufacturer of the machine, told GovGuam on April 16 to stop storing the tests and to run them immediately after swabbing the specimen in order to avoid a significantly high rate of false negatives.
