Joey and Connie San Nicolas

By Troy Torres

(Tumon, Guam) Former attorney general and former Tinian mayor Joey San Nicolas is reconsidering taking the job as the casino legal counsel. Attorney Phil Tydingco told U.S. District Court of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Chief Judge Ramona Manglona that Mr. San Nicolas informed him he was reconsidering the post five minutes before a casino court hearing moments ago in Saipan.

Mr. San Nicolas is in private practice. He served as the Commonwealth's attorney general following Ed Buckingham's departure, then was elected Tinian mayor after that.

Mr. Tydingco has served as Imperial Pacific International (CNMI), LLC's legal counsel since leaving his post as chief prosecutor at the Office of the Attorney General of Guam. He was among the casino officials whose offices were raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and documents and cell phones in his custody seized. He abruptly resigned less than a month after the raids.

Kandit broke the news of Mr. San Nicolas's hiring by IPI just Sunday night.
