BREAKING NEWS: San Nicolas seeks Senate representation for U.S. territories

From the office of Congressman Michael San Nicolas

(Washington, D.C.) Congressman Michael San Nicolas is seeking to expand Territorial representation in the United States Congress by establishing a non-voting representative to the United States Senate for each U.S. Territory. H.R.5526 provides for a non-voting delegate to the Senate to represent American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands of the United States.

Currently, Territories only have non-voting delegates to the Unted States House of Representatives, with no membership in the U.S. Senate. This results in Territories being under-represented in the Congress, because the overall Congress is a bi-cameral body that includes both the House and the Senate.

"Every federal law passed requires the involvement of both the House and the Senate, and Territories are only involved in half of the process," opened Congressman San Nicolas. "Whenever there are differences between House and Senate versions of legislation, the need for representation in both is critical to ensure that all perspectives are considered," Congressman San Nicolas added.

Currently HR 1365 to authorize federal payments War Claims is under Senate consideration as it has already passed the House, and while Congressman San Nicolas reports that a favorable outcome in the Senate is likely to occur soon, the lack of Senate representation is still felt. "If we had a U.S. Senator we could have had a mirror version of HR 1365 moving through the Senate at the same time, helping the process to move even faster," Congressman San Nicolas explains. "Additionally, certain amendments like those in the NDAA which originated in the Senate, could have been more thoroughly explained if there was actual Senate representation for Territories," said Congressman San Nicolas.

"It is a common sense next-step in the pursuit of territorial justice to at the very least extend a non-voting seat in the Senate, so that voices can be heard and the interests of the Republic represented from Territorial jurisdictions," Congressman San Nicolas concludes.

What happened to Glenn Hunters warning about the casino some years ago? (to anyone reading this - do a search on youtube under "Glenn Hunter Casino Saipan") or watch this (especially this video)

The casino act tax analysis projects only about $81,000.00 in annual taxes from the Exclusive License Holder. No shifted decimal place. $81,000/year to supposedly fund LEAC, CHC, Land Judgements, Infrastructure, etc. What's more is that tax won't be seen until the $2billiion casino is fully developed and running. Project Tax Revenue from the Exclusive Casino License Holder (once the $2 billion developement is completed and fully functional) = $81,000.00 per …

To Russ Mason, congratulations. You got your wife approved from a $144,000.00 a year delegate of ours in Washington. Did he autograph the photo too? Yes, I am right about Kilil, otherwise I wouldn't be wasting my time trying to slowly show others the reality. Politicians by nature are slick operators. Of course they understand the value of public relations, photo ops, press releases, writing letters for someone to get a green card. This is nothing new. Politicians get into the game because it's lucrative. Where else can you get such a handsome salary and BENEFITS (plenty of them for delegates like Kilili) and all you have to do is get your staff to cover your ass with press release…

You all may be right about Killing. But when my wife applied for a green card, he wrote a wonderful letter of support and posed with us for a photo. Years later Kilili's staff helped my wife to become a U S citizen. He was a great help.

The Tina and Ed dog & pony show. You can shout from the rooftops all you want but the truth of the matter is, everyone is a day late and a dollar short. You can't force anything. You know why? Because you can't squeeze water from a rock, and there are no alternative parties interested in establishing or taking over a casino here in Saipan. Nobody listened to the professionals in the industry when they all predicted EXACTLY what is happening now. Remember the grand opening of the Best Sunshine Casino at the temporary facility? You know, the one where all the cock roach politicans gathered to celebrate a new carcass to feast on? How many of those politicians were…

Russ Mason should visit and bookmark this link so he can see the facts about Kilili (as should all voters). Just because someone is popular or is liked in the CNMI doesn't mean they are doing their job effectively. To many voters are complacent at seeing the CNMI stay backwards because they don't expect much. Kilili knows that all he has to do is issue press releases from time to time and his $144,000.00 a year job remains secure. Any bets he retires in the mainland?

Kilili, how many years in Washington? And why is it that just recently we are seeing some action on key Commonwealth issues like better matching Medicaid funding from the federal government, repealing the…
