(Tumon, Guam) The acting governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands declared his islands in Typhoon Condition 3 at 3 p.m. Saturday.
CNMI Homeland Security officials in their emergency operations center confirmed to Kandit that acting Gov. Arnold I. Palacios is leading the effort to prepare the NMI for the onset of typhoon-strength winds expected by Monday.
Mr. Palacios has called a heavy weather briefing for 9 a.m. Sunday. There is no indication as to whether the acting governor will change the typhoon condition following the heavy weather briefing.
Meanwhile, Adelup has not responded to calls from Kandit on whether Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero will be making a similar declaration to prepare the people of Guam for the onset of tropical storm-force winds, when Tropical Storm Bualoi makes its closest point of approach to the Mariana Islands.
