(Tumon, Guam) Linda DeNorcey left Guam today for a conference in the states amid a growing Dengue crisis that she is supposed to be in control of.
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero granted her leave. Her office said she will meet with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials about the outbreak on Guam.
Both Ms. DeNorcey and Ms. Leon Guerrero have been under fire for their handling of the crisis, which went from one suspected case on August 19, to a full blown outbreak today.
Ms. DeNorcey is the director of the Department of Public Health and Social Services. Her deputy, Lauren Duenas, will assume her duties, to include commanding the crisis. Ms. Duenas is a college professor and nurse by trade. Ms. Leon Guerrero also is a registered nurse.
