Dengue possible in every village; two new suspected cases emerge

(Tumon, Guam) Public health officials suspect at least two more Dengue cases among residents. The official in charge of monitoring the mosquito capable of infecting people says it’s possible mosquitos are carrying the virus in every village, though they have not detected the virus in their surveillance. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero has directed the Guam Memorial Hospital to adjust its Emergency Room and Urgent Care area to accommodate residents who need to be screened for infection.

"It's important that if you're showing symptoms you go get checked right away," Ms. Leon Guerrero said. Residents who don't have access to any type of health insurance, Medicaid or MIP can walk into the GMH ER/Urgent Care Center to be seen by doctors there.

At this news conference, Department of Public Health and Social Services director Linda DeNorcey said that health officials are monitoring an increasing number of patients, who are filing into both hospitals and private clinics to see if they have Dengue due to symptoms. “There are two, who we are monitoring now,” Ms. DeNorcey confirmed.
