(Tumon, Guam) The director of the Guam Department of Corrections, Samantha Brennan, is on leave, according to the governor's director of communications, Janela Carrera.
Ms. Brennan was spotted in the middle of the workday at the military Commissary today, so Kandit inquired with the Governor's Office whether she took leave, resigned, or was fired.
"Ms. Brennan is on leave," Ms. Carrera wrote to Kandit this afternoon.
Her leave comes days after a meeting between Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and about 50 disgruntled correctional officers at DOC. The officers implored Ms. Leon Guerrero to replace the director and, one by one, described serious issues with her management of the prison, the safety of the officers, the poor conditions the prisoners go through that fall below U.S. Department of Justice standards, and the decrepit and unsafe facilities.
DOC has a temporary deputy director, Police Captain Joe Carbullido, following the resignation of Joey Terlaje.
