FEMA official: Infections will peak in June in CNMI & Guam

By Troy Torres

(Tumon, Guam) Congressman Gregorio "Kilili" Sablan and Congressman Michael San Nicolas joined the delegates to Congress from the other territories in a conference call with Robert Fenton, Jr., regional administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Thursday.

Mr. Fenton told the territorial delegates that statistical models show the highest peak of Coronavirus "infection sometime around late May to mid-June," according to a post by Mr. Sablan about the teleconference he organized:

After our teleconference with Vice President Pence and his COVID-19 Team, I organized a teleconference with FEMA for the insular areas' members of Congress.
Mr. Fenton for American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands; and the FEMA region heads for the US Virgin Islands and for Puerto Rico.
Among the several issues Mr. Fenton highlighted, he also mentioned that Guam and the Northern Marianas, based on statistical models, are deemed to be at their highest peak of infection sometime around late May to mid-June.
Thus, we are about a month away from when models estimate that COVID-19 infections will be at its highest at home. In the meantime, we could all lower this high peak estimate by staying indoors, and by wearing a mask and safe distancing from others when we absolutely have to leave our homes to pick up medication, grocery, school meal, and student learning packet.
Keep in mind that what we do today is what determines what takes place in two weeks.
Thank you and stay safe.

Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, via Executive Order No. 2020-10, has extended the public health emergency to May 5. Gov. Ralph Torres has instituted a continuing state of significant emergency and public health emergency.
