(Tumon, Guam) Tropical Storm Hagibis now is packing maximum sustained winds of 51.7 mph as it moves westward at about 20 mph toward the Marianas, according to the latest information from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
Hagibis now is 638 nautical miles east of Guam. The storm is moving and intensifying just as global forecasting models have agreed since its infant formation just three days ago.
The storm is expected to gain typhoon strength, when it passes over the Marianas some time tomorrow night or early Tuesday morning. The forecast is showing that the storm will be closest to Anatahan, and will bring damaging to destructive winds to the islands of the Northern Marianas.
Guam is within the storm's trajectory; however, Guam falls on the southern perimeter of the track. Meteorologists caution residents throughout the Marianas to stay tuned to information, as any movement of the storm to the north or south can mean significant changes to the weather in any of the Mariana islands.
