The Joint Typhoon Warning Center says Invest 90W may form into a significant tropical cyclone (i.e. tropical depression) within the next 12 to 24 hours.
The strengthening weather system, which started forming west of Pohnpei a couple days ago, now is 622 nautical miles southeast of Guam.
"Global models are in fair agreement that Invest 90W will potentially gain intensity over the next couple of days and then lose strength as it propagates northwestward, with the exception of GFS, which shows a strengthening and consolidation," according to the latest JTWC bulletin.
"Available data does not justify issuance of numbered tropical cyclone warnings at this time," the bulletin reads. "Winds in the area are estimated to bee 18 to 23 knots."
