The Chinese laborers suing Gold Mantis in the CNMI believe there is evidence of Imperial Pacific International's chairwoman's misconduct on her cell phone. They are asking federal Judge Ramona Manglona to order Cui Li Jie to turn over a forensic copy of her phone, "including all WeChat data, as well as any other email accounts, messaging accounts, or other ESI used by her."
The attorneys for Tianming Wang, et al, the plaintiffs who brought the federal civil case alleging nonpayment of wages, inhumane living conditions, deprivation of medical care, and other allegations made against the IPI subcontractor, filed the motion for the forensic copy of the Dragon Lady's cell phone March 2, 2021.
"Pursuant to Local Rule 7.1(c)(2) and Fed. R. Civ. P. 6, Ms. Cui’s opposition was due no later than 14 days from the filing of the Motion—thus, March 16, 2021," a March 17, 2021 filing in the U.S. District Court of the Northern Mariana Islands states. "However, Ms. Cui did not file any opposition... In the Ninth Circuit, a party that does not oppose a motion is deemed to have consented to granting the motion."
