MSN to senators: Protect the people!

Congressman San Nicolas urges Legislative Oversight of local expenses and mandates for unemployment

The following is news from the Office of Congressman Michael San Nicolas:

In a letter addressed to all Senators of the 35th Guam Legislature, Congressman San Nicolas is asking for legislative oversight of the expenditure of local funds that seek federal reimbursement. "The legislature needs to hold oversight hearings and make sure local expenditures intended for federal reimbursement are consistent with local and federal law, so that when we seek reimbursement we are not asking the federal government to consider anything inappropriate or nonconforming, as this will injure the reputation of the people of Guam, cause unnecessary program delays, and jeopardize future federal funding considerations," said Congressman San Nicolas. "We also need the Legislature to protect furloughed and laid off employees affected by the pandemic, by mandating that all local businesses register their pandemic unemployment with the Department of Labor, and provide all necessary certifications for those eligible and affected to apply," Congressman San Nicolas added. "These should be mandated now so that all information is in place soonest, and our people have what they need to get the help they have been waiting for," Congressman San Nicolas continued. "These two basic actions is work the Legislature can do now to get answers for and move resources to our people, and speed up program development that the people await," Congressman San Nicolas concludes.
