NEWS: Congressman San Nicolas sends second letter to Legislature urging action on unemployment

The following is news from the Office of Congressman Michael San Nicolas:

Congressman Michael San Nicolas has transmitted a second letter to the Guam Legislature, urging the body to mandate businesses to register and transmit pandemic unemployment data to the Guam Department of Labor. "A number of constituents have reached out to me indicating that they have been unemployed or that their employment has been impacted by the pandemic, yet the business they work for is not being cooperative in facilitating their needs to qualify for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance," opened Congressman San Nicolas. "The Legislature needs to act, and mandate that businesses provide the information necessary to the Department of Labor and the affected employee, so that no one is denied a rightful unemployment claim due to an unscrupulous prior or current employer," Congressman San Nicolas added. "We need to get out of the habit of reactive politics and address potential problems before they happen, not after, if we want to break the cycle of our people suffering due to inaction from elected officials," Congressman San Nicolas continued. "I strongly urge the Legislature to pass a law mandating businesses comply with any and all requirements for employees to avail of any unemployment assistance they qualify for," Congressman San Nicolas concludes.
