NEWS: Newly-hired aren't getting paid

By Eric Rosario

(Tamuning, Guam) Several newly-hired government employees have not been processed and have not been paid since the start of the public health emergency in mid-March.

Among the governor's earliest orders was the ability for the Department of Public Health and Social Services to temporarily license medical professionals to augment the limited number of doctors, certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, and others to respond to the Coronavirus situation.

"They never even told us how much we'll be paid and they still haven't paid us," according to one medical professional who spoke on condition of anonymity. This person is afraid the government will retaliate for blowing the whistle on what appears to be a labor violation.

Kandit asked the Joint Information Center for comment on this matter. The JIC still has not responded to our inquiry.
