NEWS: San Nicolas corrects bad information from the governor on cash assistance

By Johnnie Rosario

(Tumon, Guam) Once again, Congressman Michael San Nicolas is having to correct erroneous information being put out by Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero regarding federal direct cash assistance to the people of Guam.

The following is a news release from the Office of Congressman Michael San Nicolas:

Congressman moves to protect 2019 filers from GovGuam exclusion in stimulus.

In a letter to Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Rettig, Congressman San Nicolas expressed concern that the Government of Guam was seeking to circumvent federal law. "The CARES Act very specifically spells out that 2019 filers shall be included, and 2018 filers as well if they didnt file for 2019," opened Congressman San Nicolas. Recent announcements from the Government of Guam covered by local media have clearly indicated an intention by Rev and Tax to only pay Economic Impact Payments to 2018 tax filers who qualify. "The Government of Guam's public statements that they are only planning to pay Economic Impact Payments to 2018 filers is against federal law," Congressman San Nicolas continued. "Not only is the local government creating so much confusion, they are repeatedly misinterpreting federal law to the detriment of our people, for what purpose I can not understand," Congressman San Nicolas concludes.
