Sen. Jude Hofschneider (R-Tinian) is receiving a $5,000 monthly allowance from the people of the Commonwealth as thousands of its citizens suffer from the furlough of government employees.

In fact, Mr. Hofschneider has been receiving $5,000 every month since his term in the 21st Commonwealth Legislature began in January 2019, and will receive this amount every month until October this year. This means Mr. Hofschneider received $60,000 on top of his salary in 2019, and will receive $45,000 by the end of September this year, on top of his salary.

This is according to documents disclosed to Kandit News in an Open Government Act request honored by the Department of Finance.

Mr. Hofschneider was among the members of the Republican majority in the Senate, who refused to disclose the receipts of his expenditures of the allowance he has been receiving.

According to a fiscal realignment plan chartered by Mr. Hofschneider's ally, Gov. Ralph Torres, the Commonwealth government is trying to deal with a $65 million budget deficit compressed into the final six months of the fiscal year.
