NEWS: SS recipients likely to receive Economic Impact Payment without the need to file taxes

The following is news from the Office of Congressman Michael San Nicolas:

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service announced today that Social Security beneficiaries who are not required to file tax returns will not need to file a tax return to receive an Economic Impact Payment. Instead, payments will be deposited directly into their bank accounts where they receive their social security benefits. “Social Security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return do not need to take an action, and will receive their payment directly to their bank account,” said Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin. "I urge the local government to ensure that any agreement between IRS, U.S. Treasury, and Guam Rev & Tax to pay Economic Impacts Payments does not prevent in any way Social Security recipients on Guam from getting direct payments from Treasury," said Congressman San Nicolas. "Enabling Social Security recipients to get paid directly from the federal government will reduce the work for GovGuam to get others paid and speed up payments for everyone, and everyone is waiting," Congressman San Nicolas concludes.

This is a direct e-mail from SSA into my box April 1, 2020

"I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019."
