RED JEEP UPDATE: Officer Champion cited driver, did not forward investigation to highway division

By Nancy I. Maanao

The driver of the red Jeep Rubicon, who crashed into and destroyed Jerry's Kitchen at the ITC intersection, was cited for imprudent driving the day of the crash, according to police spokesman Sgt. Paul Tapao.

The Guam Police Department provided the update on the crash since first releasing few details the morning it happened. Until today, the only information GPD released was that the case was classified as "Auto Ran Off Roadway," there were no injuries reported, and no 'Driving While Intoxicated' charge.

Sgt. Tapao was unable to answer whether the responding police officer conducted any sobriety tests on the driver, an unnamed female. "I'll have to get with the supervisor of the responding officer to get you that information," Tapao told Kandit News.

The responding officer was Chris Champion, who currently is assigned to the Tamuning Tumon Police Precinct. Mr. Champion authored the police report on this case, issued the citation to the driver, and made the decision to close the case and not elevate the investigation to the GPD Highway Division.

Sgt. Tapao also has not answered our question on whether GPD officers involved in the case reviewed surveillance footage prior to closing the case.
