So how are the TR sailors, who are staying in Tumon?

By Troy Torres

(Tumon, Guam) The Sailors of the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt are going through a lot. They recently lost one of their own. Hundreds of them are battling Coronavirus infection. Thousands of them are in strict quarantine. Alone. Away from family. Unable to make human contact beyond friendly smiles from balcony to balcony under the deserted glow of Tumon's sun.

The irony of their struggle is that at any other time, these Sailors are the men and women who guarantee our safety and our freedom. They asked Guam for safe harbor. Many of them are quarantined in hotel rooms spread from Oka Point to Gun Beach. And despite their pause from war readiness, these Sailors are going out of their way to let the people of Guam know that in their quarters or ours, their mission remains to keep us all safe, especially from the dangers of this virus.

Kandit has been tagged in a number of photos and videos of what's been happening at the hotels, where these Sailors are staying. The military has never been an organization to disclose details of its operations, and for good cause. But in a display of good neighborhood and reassurance to Guamanians, it is the military that is providing information more robust and educational than even our own government of Guam.

Here are some images of how our Sailors are doing, and the steps the military is taking to keep them and all of us safe:
