Sen. Telo Taitague has introduced an amendment to the budget act that will restrict the governor's ability to use unappropriated excess revenue without the express approval of the Legislature.

Ms. Taitague is trying to save the money to pay tax refunds.

Currently, excess revenues are deposited into the Rainy Day Fund, which according to law, can be used by the governor for the payment of vendors, tax refunds, and other deficit matters.

Ms. Taitague wants for the Legislature to restrict that money to pay tax refunds only.

UPDATE: 14 out of the 15 senators voted in favor of the amendment.
