(Tumon, Guam) In privately-shared presentations and documents by U.S. Centers for Disease Control Dr. Thane Hancock that Kandit obtained today from an Adelup source, Guam public health officials and the governor have been withholding the following information from the public:
The spread of the disease is likely on Guam
Hospitals and clinics on Guam tend to amplify the risk of infection due to "aerosol generating procedures"
Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers are exposed to greater risks because of a short supply of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks; and that once those PPE run out, that's it
The number of doctors and nurses who should help patients will dwindle due to the number of doctors and nurses, who are elderly or have underlying health conditions
We are on our own: no off-island medical help will be available
The presentation was the one the public and the media was not allowed to see at the March 5, 2020 COVID19 closed-door meeting of the Department of Public Health & Social Services Pandemic Plan Review. The meeting was held at the Pacific Star Resort.
The government has been reluctant to provide information to the public on the true extent of island readiness for any potential virus outbreak on the island.
The title of the presentation is COVID-19 (disease) SARS-CoV-2 (virus). It was prepared by Dr. William (Thane) Hancock of the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention on behalf of the Department of Public Health and Social Services. You can download it here.
