WATCH: Taitague tells Jesse Mendiola his druggie port co-workers will make him relapse

Sen. Telo Taitague, on KUAM's morning talk show, told newly-hired seaport worker Jesse Mendiola that he should not have taken the job at the port because all the druggies there will tempt him to relapse.

Mr. Mendiola is a federal drug convict, who has spent the past several years of his life helping others to recover from drug abuse. He has been a model citizen since his release from federal prison, and has dedicated his life outside his construction-trade career to helping others to beat the addiction of methamphetamine.

His wife recently saw a job posting for Plumber II at the seaport. Mr. Mendiola, who is qualified in several construction trades and has been in the industry for more than a decade, applied through the civil service process and was selected for the job. He was selected despite being a vocal critic of Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero's administration.

Ms. Taitague did not name those on drugs at the seaport, nor did she provide any evidence of an extraordinary number of drug users on the docks.
