(Tumon, Guam) The Mariana Islands weather forecast for today is partly sunny with isolated showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. There are no tropical disturbances in the North Pacific that we in the Mariana Islands need to worry about. Invest 95W no longer is on the radar, literally.
And though Typhoon Hagibis is gone from sight, the storm still is causing waves. Truly, waves. The National Weather Service wants us to stay out of the ocean, especially on the western coast, until 6 p.m. today. The beaches, where the reefs are low-lying also are dangerous through this time. These are areas where an ocean rip current can sneak in and pull you out to deep seas at high speeds.
Places like Gun Beach and Urunao should be avoided.
"Do not venture out along north and west facing reefs and exposed beaches," an advisory from NWS states. "Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injuries. Strong rip currents will be life threatening."
As of 3:03 a.m. today, the NWS has the forecast for the week looking like this:
TODAY...Partly sunny with isolated showers and thunderstorms.
Southeast winds 5 to 15 mph. Highs around 89.
TONIGHT...Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated
